• Write the utility companies in your destination city. Ask about fees or deposits required for installation or services.

Service cancellations:

• On close of escrow or transfer day of possession, schedule these services to be cancelled:
  • Telephone Service
  • Cable
  • Newspaper(s)
  • Gardener/Landscaper Service
  • Snow Removal Service
  • Rubbish Service

Insurance:

• Cancel your home insurance at close of escrow to become effective on your date of move (day giving up possession).
• Transfer theft, fire and damage insurance on personal property and household goods so that they will remain covered en route and at your new home.

Schools:

• Notify your children's school(s) of your intention to move. Secure transcripts or letters regarding your child's status at school.

Post office:

• Send your forwarding address to your local post office.

Pets:

• Get information on tags, licenses, etc.
• Obtain pet medical records.

Financials:

• Arrange for check cashing in new city; transfer accounts.
• Change of address for all Banks/Investment/Brokerage/Mutual Funds/Retirement accounts.
• Change of address for any company from which you receive dividends or interest payments.
